CMMC Regulations Update and Support for DPOC Members

As many of you know, the Department of Defense has temporarily paused the implementation of CMMC Phase II while it reviews the program and considers ways to reduce unnecessary burdens on small and mid-sized businesses. However, CMMC has not been eliminated. Phase I self-assessment requirements remain in effect, and organizations such as precision optics who support the defense industrial base are still responsible for protecting Federal Contract Information and Controlled Unclassified Information in accordance with applicable DoD, DFARS, and NIST cybersecurity standards.

AmeriCOM is continuing its own CMMC readiness and certification efforts, having already filed our CMMC 2 before the pause. Regardless of changes to the implementation schedule, we remain committed to maintaining strong cybersecurity practices and protecting the information entrusted to us by our clients, members, partners, and the broader optics community. We also understand firsthand that the CMMC process can be complicated, expensive, and time-consuming. We want to offer assistance where we can to DPOC members who are working through the same requirements and regulatory changes.

As part of that effort, AmeriCOM is partnering with ComTec Solutions, a local technology and cybersecurity company that supports manufacturers with CMMC readiness, managed IT services, ERP implementation, and other technology needs. ComTec has worked with manufacturers and distributors for more than 30 years and is a CyberAB Registered Practitioner Organization. Their team can help companies review their current cybersecurity practices, identify potential gaps, and better understand the steps involved in preparing for CMMC.
