New York State-based employers: Connect with future optics talent

We’re pleased to share an important workforce development opportunity for New York State employers: the Rochester City School District’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) Job Shadow Week, taking place in February 2026.

The continued growth of the optics and photonics industry depends on introducing students to these exciting career paths early. This program allows companies to host local high school students for a day of job shadowing, offer a virtual workplace tour, or participate in a small career discussion—helping students connect classroom learning with real-world experience in photonics, engineering, and manufacturing.

Action Required: If your New York State–based company is interested in participating in the February 2026 Job Shadow Week, contact Magda Otero at motero@americom.org or 585-981-0703. We’ll help you connect with the appropriate resources and guide you through the next steps.

Simplified participation through local coordination

Partnering with school districts can take extra coordination. We can help. To make the process easy, our team is working directly with Sheldon Cox, program organizer with the Rochester City School District, to serve as your liaison and assist with all planning details. You can reach Sheldon at 585-262-8338, sheldon.cox@rcsdk12.org

Let’s work together to inspire and prepare the next generation of optics and photonics professionals in our state.
